I wanted the keep the intro cut scene short and simple. Its purpose was to provide context to the player that they were running a pet shelter. To keep with the wholesome and uplifting theme, I chose a grandma as the shelter owner. This was decided after asking others which figure they see as most comforting between: mum, dad, grandma, grandpa, or sibling. Grandma was voted highest. I wanted to give her a friendly, warm appearance, so I drew her with a big grin and sweet hand gestures. More on the design of the grandma can be found here.

I adjusted the speed of the text to appear at a slower pace so children had the time to read along.
