Like with all of my topics, I wanted to choose one that was meaningful and had the opportunity to make a difference. I also pick this because it is quite personal to me. I was 2 years old when I moved to the UK with my family. I grew up with British lifestyle at school and around friends, but at home Philippine culture was my norm. I often felt left out for looking different, eating different food, speaking differently etc. It wasn't until I was older that I understood what discrimination was, and I feel like if this topic was more widely discussed then there would be far less hate crimes, wars and negativity among us. Discrimination is prevalent everywhere and I want to learn more about it to understand why this is, as well to see what the attempts are to reduce it.
I put together some images that I think depict discrimination. Art is a common way that people express their views on this topic. I think that it is extremely effective and immediately conveys the message of being a victim of discrimination.
This journal gives a great insight to the foundations of discrimination and dives into more specific topics such as as the different types of discrimination and why discrimination is wrong.
