Bitsy is an 8-bit open source editor for small games. Emma taught us the basics of Bisty such as how to design your tile map and edit/animate your sprites.

I had a go at making a very rough version of a pet simulator. Here the player can interact with different pets and I’ve made the goal to eat all the apples before then can move on. Once they eat the apples they can go to the next room where I’ve put another animal.

I found Bitsy to be a great prototyping tool because it is easy to pick up and it’s customisable so you can design a range of different games depending on what you’d like to make.

If I had more time I would have created more dialogue for pets about the emotion they represent so it portrays my game idea more accurately.

It was a helpful visualisation of my idea, despite how simple I made it, which led me to start considering things like; what the map should look like, if they player will have their own avatar or if it will just be a room of pets only, and which perspective it should be in. I plan to develop these thoughts further following this session.

Update: I elaborate more on these points in my project proposal.
