In today's workshop we were introduced to this idea of simulation vs representation. We went through this blog (below) and discussed the idea of whether or not games are all simulations, what simulations are and how they differ from representations.

Notes from discussion:
- Thinking about themes - what are the systems and the mechanics - first thing that comes into mind when thinking of the topic
- You can tell the story of a topic (smoke comes out of a pipe) but when you add extra you can make a simulation e.g. allowing the user to control how much smoke comes out of the pipe
- Simulation games:
- Sims
- Job simulator
- Civilization
- Flight simulator
- Dating sims
- Football manager
- Simulator had a number of often contradictory meaning within the study of games (and science and philosophy, culture in general)
- "A simulation is a copy without an original" - Jean Baudrillard
- Disneyland street - some shops aren't real, buildings are twisted, castle looks bigger than it really is, some doors don't work
